Dundurn Castle is the host to many wedding ceremonies and wedding photos throughout the year. It’s one of the most popular locations to have your wedding pictures taken if you are getting married in Hamilton or Burlington. Visually, Dundurn’s amazing architecture and rustic feel is what draws most brides and grooms to this historic location and for very good reason.
If Dundurn Castle has an achilles heel though, it’s that there isn’t anywhere to take photos if it rains on your wedding day. Unless you’ve booked the coach house for your ceremony, Dundurn doesn’t allow you to use the inside of the castle for wedding photos. You’re only resort is to use the back porch or the front where the large columns are which don’t provide much of an overhang. This is why we always suggest having an indoor back up location in case it rains. It’s always nice to have a few photos of just the bride and groom out in the rain and it can look quite romantic. On the other hand, you don’t want to ask all of your family or wedding party to stand under an umbrella for an hour or two while we take photos. Spending $100-250 on a back up location could really save your spirits and those of your guests during the formal photos.
One of the most under utilized locations at Dundurn is the Maple Walk. Hertage Weddings provides onsite coordination & wedding ceremonies for both inside the coach house and the outdoor maple walk ceremony site. At the back of Dundurn, you can have your ceremony under the canopy of gorgeous mature maple trees with an outlook onto the water.
The grounds at Dundurn Castle are available for wedding photography. A two hour time slot is $170 and dates fill up quickly. Call or email to book your time 905-546-2872 or email at dundurn@hamilton.ca
Inside the coach house at Dundurn, you’re able to seat up to 120 guests for your indoor wedding ceremony.
