We’ve had the pleasure of getting to know Mark & Robert over the last few months and we were so happy to photograph their wedding. A little while back we shared some of their same-sex engagement photos that we took in Hamilton. Now we are very excited to share their wedding photos!

“Love is realizing that the compromise you are willing to make is really no compromise at all. When two people are sharing their lives together, and one makes small concessions to the other to make them smile, they realize that the small concession they made was nothing, but the smile from their partner means everything” Robert

The day was great! The wedding party, both sets of parents and all grandparents, met at our house in the morning for some last minute congratulations and celebrations (and thank God Gran was there to help us with the boutonniere’s!). The bridesmaids arrived from hair and makeup looking like a million dollars, and after changing into their dresses everyone got into the three limo’s to head to 50 Point for more pictures.
When we arrived at 50 Point we had a beautiful shady area for people to relax at while pictures were being taken. Mark‘s coworkers dropped off delicious wraps and sandwiches, coffee and doughnuts from Tim Hortons and we had some champagne and beer to toast the start of a great day. The pictures were perfectly organized by Lucas and Mark, with a list of who was in what picture and where we were taking the shots. The parents and families had their pictures taken first and then left in two of the limos to go to Casablanca to freshen up, while the wedding party headed out to the beach to take some fun shots in the sand. After we were finished at 50 point, we took the remaining limo to Casablanca, where we were escorted into the Bridal Suite to freshen up before the ceremony! The room was HUGE! And gorgeous. Casablanca had stocked it with chocolate covered strawberries and wine so that we could enjoy some decadence while putting the final touches on makeup/hair/etc. April cam e to escort us to the ceremony once all the guests had been seated, and she asked us “Does someone have a room key for later?” Both myself and Robert replied at the same time “I Do.” April laughed and said “No need for the ceremony, you guys just said what you needed to right here!”…I think she tricked us on purpose!
We headed down to the main ballroom and stood behind a partition waiting for our cue. “To Love You More” by Celine Dion came over the speakers, and Rev. Mandi escorted both dad’s into the room to begin the procession. Lindsay, Jo, Ryan, Andrew, Breanne and Kristen each walked down individually, and then I came down the aisle with my mom. It felt like the aisle went forever! When Mom and I had reached the front, I gave her a kiss and she stood with my dad, while I went to stand in front of Mandi and watch Robert come down the aisle with his mom. Most of the ceremony is a blur, I remember holding Robert’s hands and repeating Mandi’s words, I also remember Mandi’s smile as she married us…and the feeling of happiness after Robert and I had signed the marriage application which made us officially married! We walked out of the ceremony to Beyoncé’s version of “At Last”, which was a perfect way to end the perfect ceremony!
Right after the ceremony we all filed down to the grand staircase, where us and the wedding party stood at the base and all the wedding guests filled in behind us so we could have a group picture of the wedding! Lucas had a ladder (from where he got it I will never know!) and he took some great shots of the entire wedding. Casablanca looked great and all the guests were so well dressed, I can’t wait to see the shots!
After the group picture, guests went to the 8th floor restaurant we had rented to enjoy drinks and appetizers while Robert and I went with Lucas to have a few shots taken just the two of us. The pictures and they are STUNNING! Who knew weeds could look that good?
We headed up to the 8th floor lounge after the pictures and enjoyed a drink with the guests before heading back to the ballroom for the receiving line. The ballroom had been transformed from the ceremony style to dinner, with beautiful black satin chairs with tiffany blue runners and sashes. The room looked amazing! It was great to get to speak to each guest one on one before dinner, so that we were sure we spoke to everyone that had come to share our day!
After dinner and speeches we had our first dance (Open Arms by Celine Dion…yes you can judge). We chose that because we had seen her sing it live in Vegas when we got engaged…it was the perfect choice. Then there was the Mother/Son dance, where both Robert and I danced with our mothers at the same time. It was nice to have a little ‘relaxing’ moment with mom. After that, the DJ kicked off the party! Bad Romance for the bridemaids, Time Warp for Roberts dad, Stop for pretty much every girl in the room, and The Way You Look Tonight for Robert and I were some of the highlights.
The rest of the night passed in a blur of great songs, an awesome chocolate fountain, and drinks that went down a little too smooth. The dance floor was packed, people were happy and I think everyone there had a great time. We couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend our first day as a married couple than surrounded by the people who where there with us.
