Jeff & Leah’s Country Style Engagement Session

Last Wednesday I headed out to Waterdown to photograph Jeff & Leah’s engagement session at their country farm. While we wandered around the fields and grounds, Jeff told me the story of how he proposed.

It was precisely where they are standing now, when he got down on one knee and asked if Leah would marry him.

I couldn’t resist a close shot of this sign… too cute!

While Leah and I were talking, Jeff snuck off to pick some of these sunflowers for Leah and she decided to double check if Jeff still loved her. Yup, he did!

This is our twist on American Gothic. I was describing the famous painting to them and asked if they’d like to do something like it. Jeff replied “absolutely, but I think Leah should have a rifle”

With their wedding just a few weeks to go, Leah has some amazing ideas for photo locations (assuming the weather cooperates) so you’ll have to check back to see what she has planned – I’m pumped for it. Thanks for an incredible evening – I can’t wait for your wedding!!!

I headed to Toronto to photograph Nilanka & Narissa’s engagement session last weekend and had a blast cruising downtown and occasionally stopping for a few photos. Nilanka requested a few weeks back that they’d love to do some late evening / night engagement photos so after a great meal at the Harlem Restaurant and a few shots at a near by parking garage, the sun had set and we were off.

Andrew & Jennifer | Liuna Gardens | Hamilton Wedding Photographer

It’s an honor to be asked to photograph a wedding, but it’s a pleasure to get to know them on a personal level and be able to call them friends. Andrew & Jennifer were pronounced husband & wife at the beautiful Liuna Gardens in Stoneycreek with friends and family that flew in from as far as British Columbia.

It’s said that not so pleasant things come in threes. So when I walked into Jenn’s hotel room and she asked how the guy’s were doing, I said “they’re doing great – the only thing is that Andrew forgot his tie but we got it figured out and he and the guys are looking sharp.” Jenn was quite relived and said “ah, that’s number three – nothing else is going to happen today.” See, Jenn’s car didn’t want to start in the morning when she was trying to get to Hamilton from Toronto but that wasn’t going to stop her from getting married to her honey and throwing a wicked party. The rest of the day was completely flawless and was filled with laughter, love and amazing food.

I had a very strong sense of what John & Diane were after and was pumped to head out last weekend for their vintage themed engagement session. It’s really great when couples come with so many wonderful props and locations and it didn’t come as a surprise – Diane is a wedding planner and plans everything well in advance. John took it upon himself to scout locations weeks ahead of our shoot and I couldn’t be happier about what he came up with. Being that John is a videographer, he knows exactly what light I’d be looking for and when I pressed him for more details, all he said was “don’t worry about it man, you’re going to love it – we’re so excited for this!”

I think that it shows that with a little extra work, props & some imagination, you can create photographs that are extraordinary!
